Gregory M. Yates, Immediate Past Chairman
Greg is a 1968 graduate of Culpeper County High School. He received his BA in Economics from the University of Richmond in 1973. He has served on the Culpeper Board of Supervisors and on the Culpeper County Planning Commission. He was also President of the Community Concert Association and a Windmore Foundation Board member.
Currently Greg is President of Yates Properties, LC and Deer Ridge Development, Inc., two firms that manage and develop real estate in Central Virginia. Greg resides in Griffinsburg with his wife, Liz, and her daughter Jessica. He has one son, Cameron, who is a documentary filmmaker and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
David Albee
David Albee is Special Projects Senior Advisor to the President of AARP Foundation and a long time resident of Rappahannock Co. He served as Special Assistant to the Librarian of Congress and the Chief Operating Officer during construction, staffing and opening of the Library’s Packard Campus in Culpeper. During that time he was the Librarian’s liaison to the Culpeper community and was active in numerous local organizations. David worked at the Library of Congress for 48 years before his move to AARP Foundation in January 2011. He now works in concert with the foundation President and Leadership Team on an array of emerging programs to address hunger, housing, income and isolation among the 50+ vulnerable population in America.
Clarissa Berry
Clarissa Berry is a Madison County native. In 2003 she graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Sociology. Her law degree was obtained from the University of Richmond Law School in 2007.
Clarissa’s first legal experience was as a judicial law clerk in the 1st Judicial District which serves the City of Chesapeake. After that she worked as an attorney with the Culpeper law firm of Davies, Barrell, Will, Lewellyn and Edwards. Ms. Berry currently operates her own professional corporation, the Berry Law Firm PLLC.
Her community service includes serving on the Young Professionals Committee for the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce and as a member of its Board of Directors. She has served as co-chair of the Monte Carlo Night fundraiser for Germanna Community College. Currently she serves on the governance committee of the Culpeper Regional Hospital and is a member of the Madison Presbyterian Church.
Bruce Clark
Bruce was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on March 24, 1950.
His undergraduate degree with Distinction was earned from Pennsylvania State University in 1971.
Bruce received his Juris Doctorate degree from Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1974.
He has been a member of the Virginia State Bar since 1974.
He is currently married to the former Dianne M. Driscoll and they have two children: son, Taylor R. Clark, an architect living and practicing in Washington, DC and daughter, Chandler G. Clark, a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business living and working in Tampa Florida
Don Haight, Jr.
Don Haight was born in Manassas, Virginia and Graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School. After graduation he completed the management program for IBM, semiconductor & photovoltaic cells manufacturing and worked in the IBM semiconductor field.
Don was the owner of an auto body & paint shop, cleaning contractor for the Library of Congress (NAVCC) during the post construction phase, including the year after the completion of phase II, and manager of Rose Hill Farm & Wildlife Game Preserve in Culpeper Virginia. While at Rose Hill, Don was also the creator of the “Youth Outdoors Day”, where he developed a successful shooting preserve and conducted and promoted multiple outdoor fundraising events at this location.
Presently he is the owner of Full Services, LLC, a Residential & Commercial cleaning, landscaping and home improvements company.
Don is single and a Member of Piedmont Virginia Building Industry Association, ISSA, National Association of Professional Cleaners, and Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies include Vintage autos, Volkswagens in particular. He is avid hunter, fisherman and upland game bird dog trainer and guide.
Miriam L. Halsey
Norm Laudermilch
Norm Laudermilch is responsible for the management of Terremark’s NAP of the Capital Region in Culpeper, VA, as well as the rest of Terremark's worldwide infrastructure. His is an established operations and security expert with over 20 years of technical and executive level experience. His experience covers areas such as computer operating systems, networking, satellite communications and infrastructure, security hardware and software, critical event monitoring and response, and data center design, construction, and operation.
Mr. Laudermilch spent many years focused on IT security threats and the remediation and response actions necessary to counter those threats. His knowledge and experience has produced articles in over 150 newspapers, trade publications, and magazines as well as television appearances on all of the major networks. Before joining Terremark he was CTO of Trust Digital, Vice President at VeriSign, Vice President at Symantec, a co-founder of the Internet Security Advisors Group, a co-founder of the Internet Service Provider Security Working Group (ISPSEC), and was Global Director of Information Security at UUNET/MCI WorldCom.
His background also includes writing and teaching technology classes on topics such as TCP/IP, UNIX and Security as well as writing and publishing research papers on the topics of firewall design and mobile security. Mr. Laudermilch has held the highest level of national security clearances and has experience in numerous classified environments.
Mike Mashon
Mike Mashon is Head of the Moving Image Section at the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Virginia. A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he holds degrees from Louisiana State University (B.S. in Microbiology), the University of Texas (M.A. in Radio-Television-Film), and the University of Maryland (Ph.D. in Radio-Television-Film). He is the author of numerous articles on film and television history. He lives in Culpeper with wife Kristi and daughter Madeleine.
Quintin Mullins
Quintin Mullins has been employed in the financial services industry since 1980, and directly in financial planning and investment portfolio management since 1985. In 2011, he formed Mullins Investment Services, LLC a fee only financial planning and investment portfolio management firm located in Culpeper, VA. Prior to forming his firm, Mr. Mullins held various positions with StellarOne Bank . Mr. Mullins earned his Masters in Business Administration from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bluefield State College. He is a graduate of the Southeastern Trust School at Campbell University, the Cannon Trust Graduate School, and the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia. He is a Certified Financial Planner© practitioner.
Mr. Mullins lives in Boston, Virginia; he has four daughters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He has been an active participant in numerous community and civic organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Culpeper Foundation, Inc. and the Culpeper Library Foundation. He is a member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church.
Mike Nelms
Former player Mike Nelms, #21 of the Washington Redskins (1980 - 1984), was one of the most prolific kick returners in NFL history. He was named to the Pro Bowl three consecutive seasons (1980 - 1982) and the "All-NFL" team in 1983. Nelms was a key member of the Washington Redskins team that won Super Bowl XVII against the Miami Dolphins, a game in which he set two Super Bowl records. Mike finished his career with more than 6,000 career return yards, was named one of the 70 Greatest Redskins of all time and the kick returner on the NFL's All Decade Team of the '80s.
Nelms attended Baylor University as a communications major. He was drafted in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills. Prior to joining the Redskins, Nelms played three years in Canada with the Ottawa Rough Riders, where in 1979, he was named All-Pro Defensive Back, Team Most Valuable Player, and All Pro Kick Returner.
Nelms gained his greatest inspiration from his father and brother, who always shared important words of wisdom. He also credits college coach Ernie Coy and high school coach John Bentley as key figures in his success as a football player and in life. After retiring from the NFL, he found success in the automobile industry, owning and operating Mike Nelms Champion Toyota-Chevrolet in Culpeper, Virginia, for over fifteen years. Mike sold his business in 2007, and has once again retired.
Mike and his wife Michele have enjoyed twenty-six years of marriage and have four children. He stays active serving on the Culpeper Hospital Foundation Board and the National Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board. He also serves as Vice President of VOAD, past Chairman Culpeper Salvation Army Advisory Board, Chairman of the Deacon Board at New Life Anointed Ministries West in Culpeper, Virginia, and President of KB3, Inc.
W. Stephen Southard
Steve is Senior Vice President for Virginia Community Bank. He is a native of the area, graduating from Culpeper County High School in 1970. Steve received a BA in Political Science from Virginia Tech in 1974. He has graduated from numerous banking schools during his thirty-five years in banking and finance, including the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia.
Steve also serves as Chairman of the Town of Culpeper Industrial Development Authority (IDA). He is an active member of the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce and the Piedmont Virginia Building Industry Association (PVBIA). He is a life-long member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church.
For ten years, Steve was an elected Constitutional Officer serving as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for Culpeper County. In 2005, he retired from the office having earned the top status of Master Governmental Treasurer (MGT). He was presented a Resolution from both the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors and the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia for his outstanding public service. He has also served on the Culpeper Town Council.
Throughout his career, Steve has been very involved in community civic and sports organizations including the United Way, Blue Devil Athletic Boosters, Country Club of Culpeper, Culpeper Youth Basketball, Jaycees, and Lions Club. In 1983, he was the recipient of Culpeper’s “Outstanding Young Man” award.
Steve is married to Margie Southard, Principal at Culpeper Middle School, and they reside in Culpeper. They have two grown children, Matthew Southard and Kristin Southard Barrette.
Liz Yates
Liz was born on Long Island, New York and moved to Culpeper in 1977.
She currently has her Virginia Real Estate Salespersons License and started her real estate career in 1985. Liz currently works for Yates Properties as a Design Consultant.
She has one step-son, Cameron, and resides in Culpeper County with her husband, Greg and daughter, Jessica.
Raven Yates
In the spring of 2004, Yates joined with her brother, Greg Yates, in the beginnings of saving of the State Theatre. This is a homecoming to Yates to come back to Culpeper and also to the theatre she attended while growing up. Yates now serves as the State Theatre Foundation’s Executive Director and is looking forward to the renovation and restoration of this historically significant property.
Raven C. Yates joined Advisory Opinions in March of 1999, and brought a wealth of energy and legislative and organizational experience to the firm. Advisory Opinions is a small firm that handles association management, lobbying and event planning. Yates worked there until 2004 taking care of all of the day to day operations as well as the association management. Between six and eights associations were managed by Yates with budgets over $1,000,000.
A political veteran, Yates served as the finance director for the Friends of L.F. Payne campaign in 1996-97 (Lieutenant Governor race), where she created and implemented a fundraising plan and budget for the statewide campaign. Responsible for establishing the campaign headquarters, she organized initial daily operations, developed the financial prospects database, and managed staff. Prior to her work with the Payne campaign, she served as Deputy Finance Director for the Virginians for Don Beyer effort in 1996 (gubernatorial election), performing similar duties.
Yates earned significant recognition statewide for her management of the Couric for State Senate Campaign in 1995. This high-profile campaign saw challenger Emily Couric defeat incumbent Ed Robb in the 25th Senatorial District. The Couric campaign is noted for its record-breaking fundraising efforts and its use of over 1,000 volunteers in a massive grass-roots organization. Yates continued to work with Senator Couric following the election as Legislative Aide, familiarizing the new Senator with the legislative and budgetary processes of the Commonwealth.
In 1991, Yates performed a similar role for Butch Davies, serving as campaign director of another highly successful grass-roots campaign. Yates continued to serve as Legislative Aide to Delegate Davies, managing his constituent casework, legislative agenda, and media relations. Yates was instrumental in developing the Davies organization well-known ability to build bipartisan coalitions within the General Assembly to pass key pieces of legislation.
Immediately prior to joining Advisory Opinions, Yates worked in the Clerk’s Office of the House of Delegates in the Enrolling Department. Yates’ duties included the review and editing of all legislation proposed and passed by the General Assembly. Yates worked with individual legislators to revise, correct, and improve their legislative initiatives.
Yates also served as President of the Culpeper chapter of the American Heart Association, and on the State Board of Directors of the association. Under Yates’ leadership, the Culpeper unit was recognized as the best unit in Virginia, and also recognized as the fastest growing unit in Virginia. Her role on the State Board included assisting chapters around the state with recruitment, fundraising, and organizational improvement. Yates was also actively involved with the Lion’s Club of Culpeper, serving as a charter member and President.
Yates also owned and operated a women’s clothing store, Pandora’s Box, in Culpeper for five years, and worked with the Second National Bank of Culpeper and the National Bank and Trust of Culpeper for seven years.
