Collaborative Opportunities

The State Theatre is uniquely positioned to serve as both a venue for collaborative events with other organizations, and as a catalyst and center for community activities.  Its spacious auditorium can accommodate approximately 500 seated guests; something no current private facility in the region can provide.  However, The State Theatre will be more than an attractive and flexible space; it will be a magnet for inter-organizational collaboration.  Here are a few examples:

  • The National Audio-Visual Conservation Center:  The Library of Congress’ National Audio Visual Conservation Center is being constructed on Mt. Pony just outside the Town of Culpeper.  The theatre’s projected completion will complement the opening of the world’s largest moving image and recorded sound conservation center.

  • Discussions with the Library of Congress began in 2004 about joint ventures including regular motion picture screenings, symposia, film festivals and educational outreach programs tied to curricula of local schools, colleges and universities.

  • The State Theatre can augment screening and presentation space for the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center’s anticipated schedule of large film and sound related programs and events.

  • Library of Congress film preservation staff who have already visited the State Theatre have expressed interest in serving in various capacities as volunteers or as part-time employees.

  • The Germanna Technology Center:  Partnering with Germanna Technology Center which opens in spring 2006, the Theatre with its flexible stage area and state-of-the-art sound and audio-visual equipment will provide expanded space for lectures and educational presentations for students and members of the public as well.

  • The Museum of Culpeper History would be able to use the facility for gatherings such as Civil War lectures, symposia, slide shows and films held in conjunction with Civil War re-enactments and other Museum events focused on the rich history of the region.

  • The Windmore Foundation: The central downtown location of The State Theatre will afford opportunities for larger and more comprehensive programs than the Windmore Foundation can currently present in its limited spaces.

  • Mixed Use Opportunities:  The copious stage and technically sophisticated audio, lighting and projection systems that will be part of the State Theatre, provide the kinds of flexible space for mixed-uses and cross-organizational events, including governmental and town meetings, plays and other artistic presentations, community concerts, programs for senior citizens and learners of all ages, travel and tourism programs, civic meetings and community holiday celebrations and concerts.
