The State Theatre Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) public tax exempt corporation formed in September 2004. The mission of the State Theatre Foundation, Inc. is to restore the historically significant building located at 307 – 311 South Main Street, Culpeper, Virginia, which is to be used for the benefit of the entire community. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds and grants to organize, operate and maintain a not for profit regional cultural center within the Town and County of Culpeper, Virginia.
The goal of the Foundation is to creatre a cultural arts center. The restoration of the State Theatre building will be the cornerstone of this endeavor. Presently managed by a volunteer Board and an executive director, the Foundation believes that a cultrual arts center is more that just a building - it is an integral part of and enriches the life of a community. The building must make people who visit either for a performance or for a tour as comfortable as possible and provide a safe environment inside and outside the building.
Upon completion of the restoration of the movie house and construction of the annex, the Theatre will operate as the community's cultural center, presenting a wide array of programming to appreal to all elements of the growing and changing population not only of Culpeper but also of the surrounding community.
Culpeper attracts a large number of day visitors each year. The Theatre would be an anchor attraction that will target travelers and encourage overnight stays. An evening performance would bring an influx of 250 to 500 people to the core retail and restaurant area of downtown Culpeper.
