The renovation of the State Theatre in Culpeper, Virginia, will be the foundation of a cultural center for our entire region. The Theatre and annex will complement existing attractions for local residents as well as offering a unique tourist destination for visitors. The community’s response to this project has been overwhelmingly positive, as the Foundation’s mission and purpose will solve many needs facing Culpeper. Restoration and fundraising will be ongoing and the Board and staff of the State Theatre have done extensive research and planning in anticipation of the Theatre’s opening.
Remember, a cultural arts center is more than just a building – it is an integral part of and enriches the life of a community. The building must make people who visit either for a performance or for a tour as comfortable as possible and provide a safe environment outside and inside the building.
Upon completion of the restoration of the movie house and construction of the annex, the Theatre will operate as the community’s cultural center, presenting a wide array of programming to appeal to all elements of the growing and changing population not only of Culpeper but also of the surrounding community.
